Former Chairman Eric Schmidt uses passive voice in Graduation Speech, saying "No one set out to do this, but it happened."
Former Google Chairman Eric Schmidt gave a commencement speech about AI and got boo’ed.
In the first half of the speech, he said some things which are troubling.
We thought that connecting everyone would be an unambiguous good, but the platforms ended up being isolating, degrading, coarsening, and polarizing.
No one set out to do this, “but it happened.”
The tone is active at first — we built this .. and then shifts to “passive” — “it happened”.
Schmidt was only responsible for Google the tool, not the Advertising Tool with A-B Testing
